Old Athens, GA acquaintance Dave Matysiak started an online musical version of the telephone game project called Telephono as part of his residency at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts. Basically, he came up with a few original songs and sent them out to fellow artists and musicians to cut up, remix, redo, erase, whatever. The new versions are then sent on to the friend’s friends for re-interpretation, and the cycle continues.

My friend Lawson Grice asked me to re-interpret his interpretation of the song “Static snow creeps from the tv screen into your dreams letting you dance like an entranced tribal warrior on the sun.”

Here is Lawson’s original, titled “This is what it sounds like starring at a Nashville Pussy poster” and below that is my interpretation of Lawson’s song, which I call “Awake by the Lake”
